For a relaxing time in-between lectures, you can visit many of the different parks and spots of nature near the campus area. The Ruhr University Bochum even features a large botanical garden behind the G-buildings in walking distance.
The main buildings are equipped with cafeterias, other cafés are the Kulturcafé or Edwards directly on campus. The Mensa (central cafeteria building) features a lot of space and a menu that changes daily and offers great variety, including a fully vegan buffet-style bistro ("Rote Bete"). There are also multiple dining options available at the Q-West, directly opposite of the GA building.
For the occasional shopping (drinks, office supplies, old records) you can visit the Campuscenter located in front of the GA building. For grocery shopping, the Uni-Center is located just across the tram tracks in walking distance with a wide variety of different shops, restaurants and bakeries.
